Olympic Game Farm

This week, on a day when Anton was stuck in the office all day, I decided to take Monica and Jack to the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim. We had a fabulous time and I can honestly say I have never been so close to these types of animals in my life.

We started out at the petting zoo, a small area with goats, a llama, and some sort of cow-thing.

The next part was the actual farm, where you drive around a dirt road loop and see the larger animals. Since we were driving 5 mph and the back windows of our van don't roll down, I let the kids sit up front with me. That in itself was a special treat.

As you drive the animals come right up to your car and you can throw bread at them, kind of like you see in the car ahead of us:

Here are a few of the other animals we saw:

Monica thought it was cool to feed the Roosevelt elk until it stuck its head INTO the car asking for more bread.

There were peacocks EVERYWHERE.

I think this might have been a former circus bear because he did various poses, including waving at us several times. Notice how portly these kodiak bears are (what a steady stream of wonder bread will do, no doubt).
They also had cougars, tigers, wolves and other things along the dirt road, but they were in enclosed cages for obvious reasons. I don't the game farm is winning many awards from animal activists. The tigers had an extremely small space to live in, for example. And while they gave us a map showing where each animal type was located, it was really more of a free-for-all with random peacocks and chickens sort of running around everywhere. The trip definitely challenged my multi-tasking skills. I had to drive the car, avoid running over any animals, keep the kids seated, take picutures, and throw bread too. Except for the part with the elk head in the car, Monica and Jack thought the trip was AWESOME!
