Last night we had the privilege of eating dinner with UW women's basketball coach Tia Jackson. Even better, the meal was home-cooked by her mother. My dad bought the event at the women's basketball auction. We had a great time and as you can tell, Coach J loves kids!

Home Time
Well with Anton back in school he has needed a lot of time on the weekends to study and get caught up on sleep. We've cut down (a bit) on our crazy social life to give him some more breathing room. His first class is "Education Law" with a textbook so thick you could murder someone with it. He already has a paper due next week. He does find the class interesting, just time consuming. You might think I'd be suffering with these new homebound tendencies, but quite the contrary: I've got a fridge full of snacks, my new electric blanket, and at least 6 or 7 Pac Ten basketball games a week to watch on Fox sports northwest. Right now, for example, I'm watching today's UW defeat of Cal on the tivo, and will probably watch it again tomorrow. Just think of how engrossed I will be when the winter Olympics begins next month. So many sports, so little time!

Exciting stuff
Several exciting things happened this weekend. First of all, as refered to in the last post, the Huskies pulled off possibly the greatest football upset in school history:

Raise the Woof!
On Friday, Uncle Buck, my dad, Anton, and I went to "Raise the Woof" at Husky Stadium: a dinner/pep-rally/party to kick-off the 2009 Husky football season. It was awesome, probably the best Husky event I've ever been too. There were 1600 crazed fans there along with the entire team, coaching staff, players, and band. All the coaches spoke and I totally wish I'd had a video camera because they were insane!... leading cheers and going nuts! I was so pumped about Husky football when I left I didn't think I'd make it until the first game next Saturday!

Tournament Time-- Go Dawgs!
The Huskies play Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA's on Thursday. They play in Portland, which you'd think would give us an advantage but with our luck all the local Duck fans will show up and route against us. Evil. Anyway, my stomach is already in knots about the game.
Today Monica made Anton and I picture which she wrapped up in a gift bag. She told me it was a picture of a Husky dog. She got the purple and gold right, but I did ask her what those big black splotches were. She informed me that Husky dogs have black spots. Perhaps one that has been bred with a dalmation?
Then, later in the dinner conversation Anton and I were discussing our brackets. He said he only had the Huskies picked to the Sweet 16. I told him that unlike some people at the table, I am a LOYAL Husky fan and of course had them going all the way to the Final Four. Anton laughed and asked Monica (who was sitting between us) "Monica, are you a LOYAL Husky fan?"
Monica said, "I'm a Husky fan, but I'm not a Lawyer."

Abigail's UW Debut
After the Red Robin birthday extravanga, we headed to Hec Ed to watch Abigail's gymnastics team perform the opening show before the UW meet. Then we stayed for part of the meet. Having not been to a college gymnastics meet for about 20 years, I have to say it was really fun! It was only $15 per family to get in and there's lots to see. It's obviously a very technical sport that requires a lot of athleticism and was fun to watch close up.
